Every term, we welcome Fellows from all over the world to experience and participate in our hybridized model of education. We are looking for bright, engaging and humble minds and souls that thirst for creative education, deep connection and shared self-discovery.

Taktse International School is both an ideal and idyllic location to teach and learn, to be and to reflect. After familiarizing yourself with our school mission, we encourage you get in touch (below) and learn more about becoming a Taktse Fellow.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Sherry Dickstein, MD

Taktse Fellowship Coordinator

Fellowship

At Taktse, we are looking for passionate and sensitive people to help us build and sustain this amazing community of life-long learners in the Himalayas.Being a school that uses innovative teaching methods set against a traditional background, we encourage critical thinking, freedom of expression and self-reflection and are looking for the same in our fellows. Our students are not bound to rote memorization--we pride ourselves in finding the balance between knowledge and joy. Learning is important, but it is also fun; learning builds confidence and joy.At Taktse, we are looking for fellows who can share our warm community and add to the joys of learning. We are looking for independent, responsible fellows who have backgrounds in teaching and travelling. We are looking for creative fellows who can, not only pass knowledge onto our students, but also support our teachers. We are looking for role models who embody our mission, consultants who can help us grow, and teammates who can help us win the student-faculty soccer game. There is no set caricature of our fellows--we encourage any and everyone with a passion for adventure and education to apply. For more information on who we are looking for, please reach out to our list of past fellows. They are super friendly and open to questions!

What our fellows do?

Depending on your strengths and experiences, we will place you in different jobs once you have been accepted to be a fellow. You will either be a teacher's aid in different classrooms, teaching your own classes, or helping with administrative work. On the application and during the interview, there will be opportunities to voice your preferences.

After the first few days at Taktse--after familiarising yourself with our students, teachers, and staff--you will meet with the Fellowship Liaison to refine your schedule, tasks and projects at the school. We expect all of our fellows to be open to change, to be flexible. Our mission is to mutually learn from each other, and we ask our fellows to understand the constantly changing atmosphere of the school and local culture. It will be challenging...it is supposed to be.

When do our fellows come?

On the applications section below, you will see three different applications: one for undergraduate summer fellows, one for gap-year fellows, and another for fellows that do not fall into either category. We encourage our summer fellows to stay for seven to eight weeks, and our gap-year fellows to stay for a whole semester. All fellows must stay a minimum of at least 6 weeks. The Taktse school year runs from February to December, with a 10 day summer break at the end of June and two single week breaks in Sept./Oct. (dates change with the lunar calendar). We take our fellows on a rolling basis--at any given time, there may be anywhere from two to eight fellows at the school, depending on matched needs.

What can you expect from us?

Our students and staff are acquainted with and appreciate the constant rotation of fellows. Both students and teachers are eager to learn from fellows, and eager to make new friends. With only 250 students and 60 staff members, Taktse is a very small community. Everyone knows each other, and everyone cares for one another. We welcome fellows with open arms and hearts, and within a few days, you can expect to be treated like family. You can expect us to find the best possible fit for you at our school, and you can expect us to push you to the limit of your abilities. We want to learn from you, but there is also a deeply rooted culture at Taktse that we would love to share with you: a culture you will help form by simply being here. The fellowship is a chance for you to discover your love of learning, a chance for you to create new educational pathways for yourself and others, and a chance for you to grow in many different ways.
